Atletico Madrid will be looking for revenge when they visit Anfield to face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won the reverse fixture 3-2 in Spain a fortnight ago, despite throwing away a two-goal lead before half-time.

As a result, Liverpool sit top of Group B – five points clear of second-place Atletico – having won all three of their Champions League games this season.

Funnily enough, the Reds threw away a two-goal lead last time out, too – drawing 2-2 with Brighton on Saturday.

That draw means they remain unbeaten in the Premier League, however, having picked up six wins and four draws this season.

Not only are Klopp’s men the highest scorers in the Premier League, but they also have the third-best defensive record.

It is worth noting that Liverpool have scored at least two goals in each of their previous 12 outings across all competitions.

They have also kept a clean sheet in eight of their 15 matches this term, underlining their defensive solidity.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, come into Wednesday’s clash on the back of an impressive 3-0 victory over Real Betis.

Diego Simeone’s team racked up 18 shots on Sunday – nine of which were on target – and limited Betis to just a single shot on target.

Atletico have lost just one of their 11 La Liga games this season, picking up six wins and four draws along the way.

When it comes to the Champions League, however, the Spanish side haven’t had it all their own way – winning only one of their three games this term.

Following a goalless draw with Porto on Matchday 1, Atletico secured a last-gasp victory over AC Milan before losing to Liverpool.

Head-to-head: Three of the previous four meetings between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have produced at least three goals.

Atletico have beaten Liverpool on three occasions over the years, while the Reds have picked up two wins in this fixture. The other two encounters were drawn.

Team news: Liverpool will be without injured trio James Milner, Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott on Wednesday. There are also questions marks over Fabinho and Thiago.

Atletico currently have midfielders Marcos Llorente and Thomas Lemar on the sidelines, with both players absent due to muscle injuries.

Simeone’s men gave a good account of themselves in the reverse fixture, proving they have got what it takes to compete with Liverpool.

For that reason, Forbet predicts that Atletico will hold Liverpool to a low-scoring draw on Wednesday.
