Atletico Madrid take a 2-1 advantage from their first-leg Champions League quarterfinal tie with Borussia Dortmund into the second leg on Tuesday night.

Will our algorithm pick Atletico Madrid to score another big win in the last eight against Dortmund?

Dortmund fell behind early in the first leg, conceding a fourth-minute goal to Rodrigo De Paul. Atletico doubled their lead on 32 minutes thanks to Samuel Lino.

It looked like Atletico would cruise to a win and had the chance to add to their lead. However, Dortmund pulled a goal back with nine minutes left on the clock. Sebsastien Haller scored to give Borussia Dortmund hope for the second leg.

Edin Terzic’s team has to score twice and not concede to overturn the tie. However, that is easier said than done against Diego Simeone’s Atletico, who have evolved this season.

Dortmund controlled possession in the first leg with 67%. They only managed four shots on target from 12 shots at goal.

Atletico won two of the previous three meetings with Dortmund in the Champions League. However, both wins were at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.

The last time these teams faced off at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund won 4-0 during the 2018-19 Champions League group stage.

The Yellow and Black have not been in good form recently. Although they won 2-1 at Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend, they had lost their previous two fixtures – which include the defeat to Atletico. Dortmund’s defence conceded four goals in the last three games.

Atletico, on the other hand, are on a three-match winning streak in all competitions. Los Rojiblancos are coming off a 3-1 home win over Girona. The win kept Atletico hanging onto fourth place in La Liga.

Simeone’s team is led in goals by the two-headed attack of Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann. The duo has tallied 39 goals in all competitions. Morata has 20 goals and Griezmann has 19.

Although neither got onto the scoresheet in the first leg, both started in Atletico’s 3-5-2 formation as dual strikers. Griezmann scored twice against Girona at the weekend to notch his 18th and 19th goals.

Borussia Dortmund’s goal scoring stats leader this season is Donyell Malen. The Dutch player has 13 goals in all competitions. Niclas Fullkrug has notched 12 goals and 10 assists.

Can Borussia Dortmund overcome their first-leg loss in Madrid? Atletico should get a 1-1 draw away to Dortmund. The result will send them through.
