On Saturday night, Liverpool recorded a 2-0 win over Premier League rivals Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Champions League final.

The win means that the Reds made amends for last season’s 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the final of the competition in Kiev. The victory also ended a run of six straight final defeats for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The affable German boss is the man responsible for transforming Liverpool from also-rans into real contenders, at home and abroad. Klopp’s football philosophy has finally paid dividends for the Merseysider’s, who have struggled for silverware and success in recent years.

The former Dortmund boss has managed to piece together a formidable team, which by today’s standards has not cost the world. The Reds have taken the quality, rather than quantity route in the transfer market.

The clubs transfer dealings have for some been the biggest reason behind Liverpool’s return to success this season. Klopp’s team came close to ending their long wait for a top-flight title last season, only for Manchester City to pip them by one point.

Klopp’s passion for the game is expressed in the way his team plays the game. He describes his style as ‘heavy metal’ football. However, he has proven that his players can play in a more pragmatic way in big games and still get results.

The German comes across as a nice guy off the pitch, which also endears him to the fans and the media. It is hard to dislike him.

Liverpool are in the best position they have been in years to return to their glory days of winning the big trophies, with the Premier League title the next main objective for Klopp and his team.

Klopp has done an impressive job at Anfield and Saturday’s triumph is the reward for the charismatic German boss.
