Manchester City may have missed a golden opportunity

Manchester City drew 0-0 with Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

The Citizens may have a missed a golden opportunity to take an advantage into the second leg at the Bernabeu next week. The Citizens were up against a Real Madrid side without the competition’s top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo may return for the second leg at the Bernabeu, where Los Blancos have won the last six games in all competitions. Only Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have won at Real this season.

Los Blancos have lost just two of their last 29 home games in this competition and it will be a major challenge for the Citizens to make the final.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will have taken one positive from the goalless first leg, in the fact that Real could not find an away goal at the Etihad Stadium. This tie was always likely to be a tight one, so any advantage gained could be crucial in advancing into the final.

Real do have a strong home record, but City knows that even a score draw would be enough to see them through to their first ever Champions League final. With the pace of Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero in their team City will be very dangerous in the second leg.

Manchester City were underdogs at the start of the semi-finals and they will be even bigger odds to make it through following the first leg goalless draw. However, anything can happen in football and City have the quality to get the result needed to progress past Los Blancos.
