Chelsea welcome Rennes to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as Matchday 3 of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League draws to a close.

The English side are unbeaten in Europe this season a sit top of Group E on four points – three points ahead of Rennes, who find themselves bottom.

Chelsea secured a hard-fought goalless draw with Sevilla on Matchday 1, before thrashing Krasnodar 4-0 in Russia last week.

Callum Hudson-Odio, Timo Werner, Hakin Ziyech and Christian Pulisic all got on the scoresheet for Frank Lampard’s side on Matchday 2.

Chelsea extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions by seeing off Burnley 3-0 at the weekend.

Ziyech and Werner both scored for the second game running on Saturday, while centre-back Kurt Zouma also hit the target.

Remarkably, after a poor start to the season, the Blues have now kept four clean sheets in a row and have netted a total of seven goals across their previous two outings.

On the flip side, Rennes’ Champions League campaign got underway with a 1-1 draw against Krasnodar, despite enjoying 63% possession and racking up 20 shots.

The French side were then outclassed by Sevilla on Matchday 2. Rennes only saw 34% possession in Spain and managed just two shots.

However, things have been going far better back home for Rennes. They sit third in Ligue 1 having lost just one of their nine domestic games this term (five wins, three draws).

Rennes have scored 18 goals in Ligue 1 (an average of two goals per game) but have also conceded the most goals in the top seven (11).

Head-to-head: Chelsea and Rennes have never faced each other in a competitive tournament before, meaning there are no historic results to assess for this fixture.

Team news: Chelsea will be hoping to have Christian Pulisic back after the forward picked up a hamstring injury last week. Billy Gilmour remains a long-term absentee for the Blues.

As for Rennes, Faitout Maouassa and Daniele Rugani are doubts, while star man Eduardo Camavinga will be also be assessed ahead of Wednesday.

Chelsea are enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak at the moment and have kept four straight clean sheets along the way.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Chelsea will claim all three points on Wednesday. Another clean sheet could also be on the cards for Lampard’s side.
