German outfit RB Leipzig have in recent seasons become one of the most exciting teams in Europe to watch. The arrival of coaching prodigy Julian Nagelsmann this summer has only lifted the standard of the teams play.
Leipzig were plodding along nicely in the Bundesliga before a shock 3-1 home defeat by Schalke last time out. The defeat will be a test of Die Roten Bullen’s resolve, especially with a Champions League clash against an out-of-sorts Lyon at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night.
Nagelsmann’s team will be keen to bounce back quickly from that defeat last time out to record a second straight victory in Group G. The home side recorded a 2-1 win at Benfica in gameweek one, with star striker Timo Werner grabbing a brace.
The victory saw the German side move straight to the top of what looks to be one of the more open groups of this seasons Champions League campaign.
The Bundesliga side has played just seven games in Europe’s elite competition, recording three wins. Everybody connected with the highly ambitious German club will be keen to improve that poor record in the competition.
The visitors have had a tendency to be unpredictable in recent seasons. A good start to the campaign under new boss Sylvinho has quickly evaporated and OL have now failed to win in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Lyon drew 1-1 with Zenit in their first group game of the campaign. The draw means that the French side has suffered just one defeat in 12 Champions League outings.
However, on the flip-side, the French team has failed to win in eight matches in Europe’s biggest competition too, having drawn seven of those eight recent outings.
