Norway’s Rosenborg fell 2-1 to BATE Borisov in their Champions League second leg qualifying round first leg match. Now playing at home, Rosenborg will be confident of getting a big win and overcoming a one-goal deficit.

Rosenborg manager Erik Horneland watched his side secure an away goal in the first leg. That away strike could be vital in Rosenborg’s progression to the third qualifying round.

BATE Borisov will feel they can get the job down on Wednesday night in Norway. The Belarussians secured big victory in the first leg thanks to a fifth-minute penalty from Ihar Stasevich and a 51st-minute goal from Maksim Skavysh.

Rosenborg secured their goal through Anders Konradsen. The midfielder’s first-half score cancelled out Stasevich’s penalty. Konradsen’s goal gives Rosenborg a lifeline at home.

The Norwegians had a break from domestic football in the Eliteserien over the weekend. Horneland should have a relatively fresh squad for their fixture on Wednesday night.

BATE Borisov are second in the Belarussian Premier League. They are coming off of a comprehensive 4-1 win at the weekend over Torpedo Belaz. Both Stasevich and Skavysh were on target once more for BATE Borisov.

Prior to Rosenborg’s loss to BATE Borisov away, they were unbeaten in the Eliteserien. Rosenborg had posted three straight wins in the league. The Norwegians will be difficult to defeat at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim.

Horneland must set his side out to get at least one goal and hold BATE Borisov to a clean sheet. Rosenborg’s away goal from the first leg could be the difference between them going through to the third round and moving into the Europa League.

Three of Rosenborg’s last six games in the Eliteserien and Champions League have ended in over 2.5 goals scored. Goals can be expected to be scored once more on Wednesday night.

BATE Borisov are unbeaten in their last nine fixtures. The Belarussians are currently on a three-match winning streak away from home. They averaged three goals per game in those three matches. Three of BATE Borisov’s last five matches finished in over 2.5 goals scored.

The two sides should once again combine for over 2.5 goals with both sides finding the back of the net. The second leg is on a knife’s edge. Rosenborg should be favoured to get a win at home but BATE Borisov could nick an away goal or two and progress to the third qualifying round.
