Celtic to earn Champions League draw in Kazakhstan

Celtic to earn Champions League draw in Kazakhstan

Scottish champions Celtic travel to Kazakhstan on Tuesday night to face Astana in the Champions League play-off second leg.

Brendan Rodgers side hammered the minnows 5-0 at Celtic Park in the first leg, with Scott Sinclair and James Forrest among the scorers on the night. The win in the first leg all-but seals the Hoops place in the group stages, but the visitors need to stay professional in their approach.

Since the first leg, Celtic have also recorded a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock in the SPL. Rodgers side have not conceded in their last four outings in all competitions.

The visitors are unbeaten in their last six Champions League games, including qualifiers, recording four victories and two draws. Rodgers team have also kept four clean sheets from their last five Champions League outings, conceding just once in the process.

The Hoops are also now four games unbeaten on their travels in the Champions League. The Scottish champions will be confident of continuing that run in this clash.

Astana have recorded eight consecutive wins in their domestic league. However, they have now lost their last two games in the Champions League at Legia Warsaw and the first leg of this tie.

The home side have not suffered defeat in nine outings on home soil in the Champions League. However, they have drawn five of their last seven home games in Europe’s elite competition. These two teams actually met in the Champions League last season and this fixture finished 1-1.

The home side will know that this game is just about regaining some pride after that heavy defeat in the first leg. The last time the home side kept a clean sheet on home soil in this competition was six years ago against Atletico Madrid, so goals could be on the cards.

Forebet predicts that the home side will preserve their unbeaten home record in the Champions League, but the game will end all square.
