PSV Eindhoven host Monaco on Tuesday night in the Champions League third qualifying round. The Champions League rivals go into the second leg of the series having drawn 1-1 in the first leg played at Monaco’s Stade Louis II.

Both sides are desperate to make the Champions League group stage after both missed out on it last season. After the 1-1 draw in the first leg, the second leg is nicely poised.

The first leg in Monaco got off to a great start for PSV Eindhoven. The Lightbulbs got a first half goal through Joey Veerman. He scored in the 39th minute after a clever lay-off from striker Luuk de Jong.

Monaco came back to get a share of the spoils thanks to a goal on 80 minutes from defender Axel Disasi. Earlier in the game, Monaco had been denied a penalty after a clear hand ball.

PSV Eindhoven started the Eredivisie season at the weekend with an excellent 4-1 win against FC Emmen. Forward Cody Gakpo scored twice to help send PSV Eindhoven to the win.

Monaco also got a matchday No. 1 victory. Les Monegasque picked up a 2-1 away win at Strasbourg. Philipp Clement’s team won thanks to goals from Krepin Diatta and Sofiane Diop. Monaco scored on either side of halftime and led 2-0 prior to Strasbourg’s goal.

Last season, PSV Eindhoven and Monaco met in the Europa League group stage. There is recent history between the teams and Monaco are unbeaten in three straight games versus the Lightbulbs.

In 2021-22, Monaco went to Eindhoven and posted a 2-1 away win in the Europa League. Les Monegasques showed they can go away to the Netherlands and win. Monaco won’t be intimidated by the atmosphere at the Phillips Stadion.

PSV Eindhoven coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has four players on the injury list ahead of the match. Midfielder Mauro Junior is a doubt with a groin injury.

Forward Noni Madueke is a doubt with an injury as well. Forward Carlos Vinicius has a hamstring injury that could keep him out of the fixture. Meanwhile defender Olivier Boscagli has a knee problem that could keep him out of action.

Clement has injury worries ahead of the match on Tuesday in Eindhoven. Up to six players could miss the match.

Defender Benoit Badiashile is a doubt and may not return until later this month. Takumi Minamino, signed this summer, could miss the second with an injury. He started the first match.

Willem Geubbels, Myron Boadu, and Yilan Okou are struggling for fitness and could miss the game. Defender Caio Henrique is recovering from an illness and may lack fitness.

The first leg finished 1-1 with both sides scoring on either side of halftime. Will the second leg end the same between these European rivals?
