Copenhagen v Leicester will be a close game

Copenhagen v Leicester will be a close game

Leicester have endured an inconsistent season, but the one big positive has been their Champions League campaign. The Foxes lie midtable in the Premier League, but Claudio Ranieri’s team have won all three of their European games this season. All three of those victories were achieved by keeping clean sheets.

The Foxes head to Denmark on Wednesday night to take on Copenhagen in Europe’s elite competition. A win could put the Foxes through to the last-16 if group rivals Porto fail to record a win against Club Brugge.

It would be a major achievement for the English champions in their debut campaign in the Champions League to make the knockout stages. In fact, the side from the Midlands had only ever taken part in three previous European campaigns of any description.

Claudio Ranieri’s team’s chances of qualification from an open group were written-off at the start of the campaign. However, the Italian and his team are now accustomed to upsetting the odds after last season’s shock Premier League title triumph.

Winning their Champions League group would be an even bigger achievement than just making the last-16. A victory in this clash would make the Foxes heavy favourites to top the group after the six games.

However, Copenhagen are no pushovers on home soil. The Danish side have won their last four home games in the Champions League at the Telia Parken. Only Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen have come to Copenhagen and left with anything other than a defeat in their last eight home games in this competition.

Copenhagen also know that to have any hope of winning the group they have to win this game. Even a draw would make finishing top very unlikely.

This game is very hard to predict and the destiny of qualification from the group could hinge on this result. It will no doubt be a close game and if Leicester does record a victory it will be something else to add to the amazing feats performed by Ranieri and his team in the past season and a half.
