Tottenham will be in high spirits heading into Monaco clash

Premier League Tottenham starts their Champions League journey on Wednesday night with a home clash against Monaco at Wembley.

Spurs had enjoyed a slow start to the campaign, but last time out hammered Stoke 4-0, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli both among the scorers. The pair has struggled to rediscover their good form from last season.

However, now that both have now broken their goalscoring duck this season they will be confident of adding to that tally when Ligue One leaders Monaco head into town. It is by no means an easy game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, but it will benefit Spurs that they head into the clash

Leonardo Jardim’s team have won three and drew one of their opening four Ligue One games, including defeating big spenders PSG on the opening weekend of the campaign. They will also be confident heading into this clash.

With home advantage and the momentum from the weekend win then the side from north London will be looking to kick-off their European campaign with a win in this clash.

Pochettino rotated his squad slightly at Stoke, with Heung-Min Son one of the fresh players who impressed against the Potters. The South Korean scored twice and produced an assist in his first appearance of the season for Spurs, having been at the Olympic Games with his national side.

Pochettino is now spoilt for choice especially in the attacking midfielder area of the team, after the arrival of French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko. He could make his first Spurs in this clash, although son is likely to keep his place in the starting eleven.

For Tottenham to thrive in the Champions League they must win their home games and this will be an early test of their credentials. If they pass the test then it will be a foundation for the rest of the competition.
