PSG coming out age in the Champions League

PSG coming out age in the Champions League

PSG secured their place in the last eight of the Champions League with 2-1 win at Premier League Chelsea on Wednesday to win the tie 4-2 on aggregate.

The French giants have spent heavily in the last half a decade to become a major player in Ligue One and the Champions League.

They are now considered an up-and-coming force in European football. The French club barely have a history, having only been founded in 1970, never mind a history in the Champions League. However the club’s Qatari owners are determined for the club from the French capital to dominate at home and abroad.

The group have invested heavily in the development of everything at the club in order to achieve their aim of European domination.

Knocking out a club like Chelsea in consecutive seasons in the Champions League shows that the French club are coming of age in European competition. They still have a lot of catching up to do in the Champions League to clubs and teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

The last few seasons have shown that the Laurent Blanc’s team have come a long way in European competition. A real test of PSG’s credentials will now come in the quarter-finals if the French side draw one of Europe’s big hitters.

The side will need to beat one of European football’s elite if they are to cause a real splash in the competition, but making it into the quarter-finals of the Champions League is a step in the right direction.
