This season has been another fascinating one in the German Bundesliga. This weekend the 2020/21 season comes to an end. One of the few issues yet to be decided is who will drop down into the Bundesliga.2 for next season.
One team looking to avoid that fate is Arminia Bielefeld, who visit Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon. Frank Kramer’s team know that all they have to do is better the results of Werder Bremen and Koln to avoid a quick return to the second tier for next season.
Bielefeld are just two points clear of 17th place Koln and a point ahead of 16th place Werder Bremen, in a tight fight for survival.
A recent run of just one win in their last five league outings has hampered the visitor’s chances of staying in the German top-flight for next season.
The fact that the visitors have won just once in their last nine matches on their travels in the Bundesliga does not bode well for an away victory. They have also failed to score in their last three away matches. It could be a highly nervous 90 minutes for the visitors.
Stuttgart have enjoyed a strong return to the Bundesliga and Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team could yet still seal a place in next season’s inaugural Europa Conference League.
The odds are against Die Roten, though, as they are ninth-place and two points adrift of Union Berlin, who occupy the final European spot in the Bundesliga.
They would need Union and also eighth place Monchengladbach to slip up on the final day in order to finish in seventh place.
Stuttgart have a decent recent home record in the Bundesliga, winning four of their previous six matches in the German top-flight.
Forebet predicts that Stuttgart will end the season on a winning note, which would mean Arminia Bielefeld would have to hope that the two teams below fail to win to ensure their Bundesliga status for next season.
