If Union does lose here to Gladbach and also if they see VfL Bochum and Mainz win their games, the men from the capital will be in the relegation playoffs spot.
Union did suffer another heavy defeat at home last time out, as Bayern Munich ran out 5-1 winners with Yorbe Vertessen scoring in the 90th minute for his side.
It was also the third defeat in a row for Union and their second loss in a row at home after Bayer Leverkusen also managed to beat them in between a loss away to Augsburg.
