Wolfsburg have been one of the surprise packages in the Bundesliga this season. Olivier Glasner’s team are looking good to secure Champions League football for next season as they welcome Koln to the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The home team are third-place in the German top-flight table, eight points clear of fifth-place Dortmund in the race for the Champions League spots. The Wolves are also just six points behind second-place title-chasers RB Leipzig.
They head into this clash on the back of four wins in their previous five Bundesliga outings. Glasner’s team has been highly effective at both ends of the pitch, scoring at least two goals in six of their last eight league outings.
At the other end of the pitch, the Wolves have kept clean sheets in eight of their last ten matches in the Bundesliga.
That record may come as little surprise, as only RB Leipzig have conceded fewer goals than the Wolves in the German top-flight this season.
Wolfsburg have been strong at Volkswagen Arena in recent months, as they are unbeaten in 12 Bundesliga games on home soil.
While the home side strives for the Champions League spots, Koln are just looking to stay out of the Bundesliga relegation zone.
The Billy Goats have been sucked into the relegation play-off spot after a poor run of form, including failing to win in their last six matches in the German top-flight.
However, a 2-2 home draw with Dortmund last time out was certainly a creditable result for Markus Gisdol’s team.
The recent poor run of form has not been helped by Koln’s woeful record on their travels of late in the German top-flight, as they have lost four of their last five away matches while conceding at least two goals in all four of the defeats.
Koln have taken four points from their last two meetings with the Wolves, although both of those were home matches.
