Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to shrug off their midweek disappointment in the Europa League where they were dumped out of the competition by Swiss outfit, Young Boys, as the German hosts lost 6-3 on aggregate, when they play host to mid-table side, Freiburg.
Leverkusen currently sit in 5th place in the Bundesliga and five points adrift of 4th placed Eintracht Frankfurt but at least the hosts can now concentrate on the matter in hand of pushing for a possible top four finish in the German top flight.
However, Leverkusen have managed to register just two league wins out of their last 10 matches overall, which came in the shape of wins against Borussia Dortmund 2-1 and a 5-2 victory over Stuttgart.
The good news for the hosts is that both of these wins were achieved on home turf at their BayArena ground.
Form and results at home have been reasonable enough with Leverkusen winning 5 drawing 4 and losing just 2 of their 11 home matches to date this season, while also winning three of the previous four meetings against Freiburg.
Onto Freiburg, and the visitors have also stumbled in recent weeks in the Bundesliga as they’ve managed to record just two wins out of their last seven matches overall, which were also both picked up with home wins against Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund.
However, this decline in form has resulted in Freiburg dropping down the Bundesliga table to 9th place and their situation looks set to continue to be under threat this Sunday as the visitors have managed to win just two of their last nine matches on their travels.
Wins on the road at Schalke and Hoffenheim have been outweighed by defeats away at Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, all of whom currently sit in the top six of the German top flight, so this upcoming trip to face Bayer Leverkusen looks to be another tough ask for the visitors.
With just two clean sheets from an away record of W3 D3 L4 this may not do Freiburg any favours here either especially against a Bayer Leverkusen side who have held the upper hand in previous recent exchanges, and this trend looks set to continue at the BayArena this Sunday with Leverkusen pushing for a top four spot.
