This season has seen an unexpected name in the mix for the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga. If you include Eintracht Frankfurt, there are two unfamiliar names in the fight for a top-four spot. The other is of course Wolfsburg.
While the usual suspects of Dortmund and Monchengladbach dwell below the lucrative Champions League spots, the Wolves just keep on winning and week by week the chances of Oliver Glasner’s team clinching a top-four spot becomes more of a reality.
On Saturday afternoon, Wolfsburg looks to have the perfect opponents, as struggling Hertha Berlin visit the Volkswagen Arena.
The contrast in recent league form between the pair could not be starker. The home side head into this clash on an eight-game unbeaten run, including winning five of their last six games in the German top-flight.
The visitors recent league form is as bad as the Wolves Bundesliga form is good. The team from the German capital have failed to win in eight league matches, having lost five of their last six league games.
The stellar recent form has taken Wolfsburg to third-place in the table, five points clear of fifth-place Bayer Leverkusen in that lucrative fight for top-four places.
Meanwhile, the form of the likes of Mainz and Arminia Bielefeld below them has made relegation a very real prospect for Hertha. Pal Dardai’s team are now just a point above Mainz, who occupy the final relegation berth.
One player who has been key to Wolfsburg strong campaign so far has been giant Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, who has scored 14 goals in the German top-flight this season, having also scored five in his last eight league appearances for the Wolves.
Unsurprisingly, considering current form, Forebet is predicting that Wolfsburg will record a victory in a low-scoring encounter to move one game closer to Champions League football for next season.
