Monday night throws up just the one fixture in the German top flight but one that represents an important encounter for both teams who’ll be keen to further improve upon their current league positions in the Bundesliga.
After coming out of the blocks in impressive fashion at the start of this Bundesliga campaign, picking up early back-to-back wins against Koln 3-2 away from home and an excellent 4-1 home win against the perennial German champions, Bayern Munich, Hoffenheim have since imploded as the hosts have failed to win any of their subsequent seven matches overall.
Within this barren spell, Hoffenheim have suffered four defeats and this has resulted in the hosts dropping down the table to a disappointing 12th place, but one thing that has been constant (more or less), is that both teams tend to score when Hoffenheim take to the field.
Eight of Hoffenheim’s nine league matches to date have resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net and this trend looks set to continue on Monday night.
Onto Augsburg, and the visitors currently occupy 8th place and find themselves just four points adrift of the top six in the German top flight thanks to useful points picked up in recent draws with Borussia Moenchengladbach and Freiburg.
However, the prospects of an away win for Augsburg in this clash do seem slightly remote as the visitors have picked up just one win out of their last seven matches overall in the Bundesliga which came in the shape of a 3-1 home win over Mainz.
Away from home, Augsburg have suffered just the one defeat from their four matches played to date on their travels which was a heavy 3-1 loss at Bayer Leverkusen but a 3-1 win at Union Berlin backed up by draws at Wolfsburg and the aforementioned M’gladbach means the visitors are also in with a shout of the spoils in this clash.
Four of Augsburg’s last five away matches have also seen both teams score so this perhaps indicates that they too have the same capability of scoring and conceding as their hosts.
Indeed, four of the last six meetings between these two clubs have resulted in both teams notching and this Monday night may be no exception.
