Schalke are enjoying a promising debut campaign under former Huddersfield head coach David Wagner. The Royal Blues are currently fourth place in the Bundesliga table ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg have been highly inconsistent in the German top-flight this season.
Oliver Glasner’s team are still eighth-place in the table, though and a win at the Volkswagen Arena would move them to within two points of the visitors in the table and possibly into the European spots, depending on results elsewhere.
However, Wolfsburg have found wins hard to come by in recent matches in the Bundesliga, as a surprise 2-1 win over Monchengladbach last time out was only their second victory in eight matches in the German top-flight.
The match was a slight trend breaker for the Wolves, in that it was high-scoring, as ten of their previous 13 league matches had produced under 2.5 goals.
The Wolves home form in the Bundesliga has not been great of late, as the victory over Gladbach last time out ended a three-game winless run on home soil for Glasner’s team.
Schalke are in a strong position. In fact, if results go their way during gameweek 16, the visitors could move level on points with second-place Monchengladbach, who have been one of the teams of the season in the Bundesliga this season.
A 1-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt means that Wagner’s team have now won three of their last four league matches, with their only slip-up a 2-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen. The win over Frankfurt ended a run of high-scoring games in the German top-flight for Schalke, as their previous five matches had produced over 2.5 goals.
Forebet predicts that Schalke will continue their recent promising run of form by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
