Can Everton Take Advantage of Wolves’ European Exploits?

The early kick-off on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League is between Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park.  Both teams will be hoping to pick up a win having failed to do so in their previous match.

Everton begin the weekend in 12th place in the Premier League on 4 points. Wolves are three places further back on 3 points.

The Toffees survived a scare in midweek as they defeated Lincoln City 4-2 away from home.  Everton fell behind in the first minute of the match but took a 2-1 lead in the second half.  The hosts came back to level it at 2-2 but goals from Alex Iwobi and Richarlison inside the last 10 minutes made the difference.

It was an important win on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.  That was Everton’s first defeat of the season having been held to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on the opening weekend followed by a 1-0 home win over Watford.

Trends show Everton have been difficult to break down on home soil and they have kept a clean sheet in each of their last six home Premier League matches.  They have won each of their last five home games in all competitions, winning the last four at both half-time and full-time.

Everton have seen under 2.5 goals in nine of their last twelve competitive matches.

Wolves played in the Europa League on Thursday night and booked their place in the group stages of the competition. They defeated Torino 2-1 at home having already won the away leg of the tie 3-2.

That was Wolves’ ninth competitive game this season and they started their campaign back on the 1st August against Crusaders in the Europa League.  They have played three rounds of Europa League qualifying, winning all six of their matches.

However, wins have not been as easy to come by in the Premier League.  Wolves may be undefeated this season but they have yet to pick up a win.  They have been held to a draw in all three games, at home with Manchester United and Burnley and away to Leicester City.

Trends show Wolves have seen under 2.5 goals in six of their last eight away matches in the Premier League.

Team news and Everton could start with Moise Kean up-front and Alex Iwobi will also be hoping to make his first Premier League start of the season.  Jean-Philippe Gbamin is out with a thigh injury.

Wolves have no injury worries following their Europa League game on Thursday.  Ruben Neves will be hoping to start the match having been on the bench in midweek.

This should be a very tight game and we are expecting to see under 2.5 goals scored.  It is difficult to separate the teams and we could see a low scoring draw.
