Can Brighton extend unbeaten start against Southampton?

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Southampton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

Southampton are yet to pick up a point this season (W0, D0, L2) while Brighton are unbeaten with four points to their name (W1, D1, L0).

The Seagulls got off to a dream start under new manager Graham Potter, with a convincing 3-0 win away at Watford on the opening day of the new campaign.

An Abdoulaye Doucoure own-goal was followed by a Florin Andone strike before debutant Neal Maupay completed the scoring to cap off a fine victory for Brighton.

In their last match, Leandro Trossard scored Brighton’s only goal to cancel out a Javier Hernandez strike and rescue a 1-1 draw with West Ham United.

Potter will be extremely happy with his team’s performance though, as they dominated the possession and registered twice as many shots as their opponent.

Southampton’s start has been far less convincing. They were thrashed 3-0 away at Burnley in their season opener before losing 2-1 at home to Liverpool.

Danny Ings pounced on a mistake by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Adrien to snatch a goal back for his side in the 83rd minute, but then missed a golden opportunity to steal a draw late on.

However, Southampton did manage 14 shots against last season’s runners-up, and this will give boss Ralph Hasenhuttl some hope heading into this match.

Following the Saints’ poor start to the season, the team is without a win in their last seven Premier League matches.

On the other hand, Brighton didn’t win any of their last nine matches of the 2018/19 campaign, but have started much brighter this time around.

Many believe that the Seagull’s promising start is largely down to Graham Potter’s philosophy.

The team has been far more exciting to watch this season under the new manager and he appears to be getting the best out of his players.

Southampton have generally had the upper hand in this south-coast clash over the years.

The two teams have met 71 times overall, with the Saints winning 34 and Brighton claiming 20 victories.

Southampton are also unbeaten in their last five encounters with Brighton (W2, D3, L0).

Having said that, Brighton have started the season in fine form and Southampton are yet to get going.

Forebet predicts a Brighton victory, with goals at both ends.
