Stuttgart are the Bundesliga’s surprise team. The Swabians are second in the standings, with 21 points after eight games.

Expectations were for Stuttgart to battle relegation once more this season, especially after selling captain Wataru Endo to Liverpool. Yet, coach Sebastian Hoeneß has the team firing on all cylinders.

Sure, Stuttgart have avoided the big names in the Bundesliga thus far, but confidence continues to grow amongst the squad. Could Stuttgart win the Bundesliga for the first time since 2006-07? It is a little too early to make a case for Stuttgart winning the title.

However, a win over Hoffenheim on Saturday could raise expectations even more. The Hoff won’t be an easy team for Stuttgart to swat away.

The Blues are sixth in the league and like Stuttgart, they are at the right end of the Bundesliga table.

Hoffenheim took 15 points from the opening eight matches. Seven points separate Hoffenheim from the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, five points separate Hoffenheim from the top four. There is hope that the Blues could return to the Champions League places in a very competitive Bundesliga.

Stuttgart top the current Bundesliga form table, with 18 points from the last six games. Despite losing their defensive midfield linchpin, Endo, Stuttgart conceded just three times in their last six games. The Swabians’ attack bagged 19 goals in the last six fixtures, the joint-most of any team in the league.

Indeed, Stuttgart have scored the second-most goals in the Bundesliga this term, with 25. Just eight goals were conceded.

Hoffenheim took 12 points from the last six matches in the league. They scored 13 times, but defensively, Hoffenheim are conceding goals. Thirteen goals were allowed by Hoffenheim in the last six matches.

Stuttgart posted a record of 2W-3D-1L against Hoffenheim in the teams’ last six head-to-head matches. The teams’ last two fixtures finished as score draws.

Six players could be missing for Hoffenheim for Saturday’s game. Midfielder Marco John is out for the season with a knee injury. Defender Ozan Kabak is out with a shoulder injury.

Forward Andrej Kramaric will miss the game with a hip injury. In addition, Hoffenheim will be without Stanley Nsoki, Bambase Conte, and Dennis Geiger.

Four players are on the Stuttgart injury list. Defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is ruled out with an injury. Fellow defender Josha Vagnoman is in line to return from a muscle injury. Fabian Bredlow is out with a hip injury.

Serhou Guirassy is set to miss the game with a hamstring strain. Guirassy is a massive miss. He leads the Bundesliga with 14 goals.

Based on Stuttgart’s excellent scoring record this season, the teams should play a goal-fest at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

In the end, Stuttgart should prevail 3-2 over Hoffenheim to keep pace with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
