Mainz heads to VfL Bochum this Friday in the Bundesliga with the two sides sitting in the bottom two of the German top flight after a dreadful start to the season sees both sides winless after eight games.
Mainz head into this one just below Bochum in the table and are dead bottom right now. This sees them with six losses in the league so far, which is the worst in the division. What's more, with 22 goals let in, no side across the Bundesliga has let in more goals too.
Worse yet for Mainz, they have also scored only seven goals of their own this season and alongside just two draws, they have now racked up only two points.
One of those draws came recently in a visit to Borussia Monchengladbach where Brajan Gruda scored after 24 minutes to equalise at the time.
It looked as if Mainz could finally get their first win of the season when Aymen Barkok scored towards the end of the game, but an equaliser with two minutes left on the clock from Gladbach forced a draw.
Mainz suffered a home loss to Bayern Munich in their last outing, and their other draw came against Eintracht Frankfurt where Lee Jae-sung scored after 25 minutes.
Once more, it seemed as if they would get all three points that day until a late equalier from Frankfurt that saw Omar Marmoush bag in the 91st minute of the game.
Other results this season have seen Mainz lose to the likes of Werder Bremen and Union Berlin by letting in three goals, while they have only managed to score against Augsburg, Bayern, Union, Stuttgart and in those two draws.
They did also secure a win over SV Elversberg in a 1-0 DFB-Pokal first round victory back at the start of the season where Ludovic Ajorque netted from the penalty spot
As for Bochum, they have drawn four times this season to put them two clear of Mainz at the bottom of the table.
These results have seen them take a point in an away trip to RB Leipzig, Augsburg and at home to Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund.
Unlike Mainz, however, they lost their DFB-Pokal first round draw with Arminia Bielfeld after a 2-2 draw saw them lose on penalties. Last time out, Bochum lost 2-1 to Freiburg.
