We have reached the second round of 2023/24 Europa League group games and on the 5th of October, we have a meeting between Marseille and Brighton.

The match will be played at the Stade Vélodrome and the hosts are currently third in Group B on 1 point while the visitors are bottom of the group and yet to get off the mark.

Marseille come into the game on the back of a 3-2 defeat at Monaco in Ligue 1 on the weekend.

It was Marseille who opened the scoring in the first minute of the match but it took Monaco only 7 minutes to find the equaliser.

Marseille scored again 10 minutes later only for Monaco to respond with their second in the 23rd minute.

There were no further goals in the first half and it was Monaco who scored the only goal after the interval to take maximum points.

The defeat at Monaco means Marseille have failed to win any of their last 5 fixtures in all competitions.

There have lost at PSG and Monaco in Ligue 1, been held to a 3-3 draw at Ajax in the first round of Europa League group games and picked up a point against Nantes and Toulouse in Ligue 1.

Trends show Marseille have won just 1 of their 15 most recent Europa League matches. However, they are undefeated in their last 3 Europa League games on home soil, with both teams scoring in 4 of their last 6 at home.

Brighton travel to the Stade Vélodrome having been thrashed 6-1 by Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

It was a hugely disappointing performance from Brighton and every time Aston Villa went forward, they looked like scoring a goal. 3-0 down at half time, Brighton pulled one back early in the second half but Aston Villa scored another 3 goals.

The defeat at Aston Villa means Brighton have lost 3 of their last 4 fixtures in all competitions.

The victory came at home against Bournemouth but there have been defeats against Chelsea in the League Cup and AEK Athens at home in the first Europa League group game.

The defeat against AEK Athens came as a shock because Brighton were the clear favourites to win.

There is no doubt Brighton need to tighten up defensively and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their 9 competitive matches this season.

Team news: Marseille are without injured midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia plus there are doubts over the fitness of Renan Lodi.

Brighton make the trip to France without the injured trio of Julio Enciso, James Milner, and Pascal Groß. They also have doubts over the fitness of Jakub Moder.

Brighton have been finding it tough in recent fixtures and Marseille will be aiming to add to their troubles.

We expect to see both teams find the back of the net in this game and it is difficult to split them, especially with Marseille’s poor home record in the Europa League. This game could end level, with over 2.5 goals scored.
