Olympiacos' Narrow Win Over Genk Will Get Them Into the Europa League for the Season

Genk and Olympiacos are set to clash in the second leg of their Europa League third round of qualifying with the Greek giants winning the first leg after a close game at the Georgios Karaiskakis Football Stadium.

Over in Belgium, Genk will be confident in overturning the 1-0 deficit with the club managing to have five shots on target away in Greece in the first leg.

The club also only conceded three shots on target that day to Olympiacos.

On the domestic front, Genk have so far won two of their five games and lost only once.

Better yet, they have only let in one goal so far after their defeat to Eupen at home two weeks ago.

Their wins have seen them defeat Cercle Brugge away from home, although it was an own goal that made the difference in that 1-0 victory.

The other three points came against RWDM in a sensational display that saw Alieu Fadera and Bryan Heynen score in the first half, alongside a goal in the second 45 from Daniel Munoz and Carlos Cuesta.

On the other hand, Genk were eliminated in the Champions League second round of qualifying after a loss on penalties to Servette.

The club would draw 1-1 in the first leg after a goal from Tolu Arokodare before he scored again in the second leg alongside a penalty from Mike Tresor.

As for Olympiacos, their Super League Greece season has not yet started, and they did finish third last season in what was their lowest finish in many years.

In fact, they ended up winning only 21 games after 10 draws and five ties.

On the other hand, they scored the most goals with 70 going in alongside their solid effort in defence where they let in only 24 goals.

Unlike Genk, Olympiacos have entered the Europa League qualifiers because of their league finish and not because of elimination from the Champions League.

However, if they can avoid a loss or even draw this game, they will be back in the Europa League for next season.

During preseason, the Greek side  would defeat Slovacko and Rangers by also letting in a goal, as they also drew with Nordsjaelland and Sabah before a loss to Norwich City three weeks ago.

Forebet predicts a win for Olympiacos and for the second leg to see under 2.5 goals, just as was the case in the first leg between these two.
