Bayern Munich will be looking to return to the summit of the German domestic top flight over the weekend when they play host to Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon following recent back to back draws with Borussia M’gladbach and Union Berlin.
It was a familiar sight when Bayern Munich opened the new Bundesliga season with three league wins on the trot with victories gained over Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 away from home on the opening day of the new season.
And this emphatic win was followed by wins against Wolfsburg 2-0 at home and another crushing victory inflicted upon Bochum, with Bayern cruising to a 7-0 win.
The recent stalemates with M’gladbach and Union Berlin have pegged the perennial champions back as they currently occupy 3rd place in the early Bundesliga standings.
But one feels this may just be the quiet before the storm, and a backlash against Stuttgart may well be on the cards here.
Bayern are unbeaten in their last nine home games, winning six of these games while goals have also featured with five of these nine games resulting in over 2.5 goals.
Stuttgart by contrast have yet to register their first win of this new Bundesliga season as the visitors have drawn four and lost once in their opening five games of this new campaign, picking up points in stalemates with RB Leipzig, Werder Bremen, Cologne and Schalke, along with losing 1-0 at home to surprise package, Freiburg.
Indeed, Stuttgart have found league wins hard to come by in the Bundesliga.
The visitors have managed to capture just one victory from their last 12 matches overall in the German top flight which came in the form of a 2-1 home win against Cologne.
It’s a similar story when looking at Stuttgart’s results away from home too.
The visitors have failed to win any of their last 12 outings on the road in the Bundesliga and they face a mountain to climb against their more illustrious hosts, Bayern Munich, on Saturday as they brace themselves for this trip to the Allianz Arena.
Each of the previous seven meetings between Bayern Munich and Stuttgart have resulted in over 2.5 goals and another high-scoring encounter looks to be on the cards for Saturday afternoon as well.
