Borussia Dortmund were cruising to a 2-0 win against Werder Bremen on matchday No. 3 only to “Dortmund” things up. The Yellow and Black conceded three goals in the final minute plus stoppage-time to lose 3-2.
Now, Edin Terzic takes Dortmund to the German capital to play strugglers Hertha Berlin. The Old Lady are 16th in the league with one point from nine games on offer.
It doesn’t seem to matter what Hertha Berlin do off the pitch as they continue to struggle on it. Hertha Berlin are coming off of a 1-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach.
The capital club have scored two goals and conceded five this season in three games in the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, have scored six times and conceded four. Three of those four goals were against Werder Bremen.
Dortmund’s loss to Bremen sent them from second place down to seventh. The top of the Bundesliga is set to be competitive, but questions remain around whether any club can stick with Bayern Munich at the top of the standings.
Borussia Dortmund have a strong record of 5W-0D-1L against Hertha Berlin in their last six matches in all competitions. Last season, Dortmund went to the capital and lost to the Old Lady 3-2. The loss once again showed Dortmund’s issues with playing defence.
The reverse fixture saw Borussia Dortmund win 2-1. Four of the last six games between these teams finished with over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring goals.
Dortmund’s goals have come from six different players this season. The Yellow and Black have not had one player step up to score the team’s goals, like last season with Erlin Haaland.
The ability for multiple players to score goals could help Dortmund push toward the title. Berlin have scored just twice this season with Dodi Lukebakio and Suat Serdar getting the goals.
Terzic has four names on the Dortmund injury list going into the game. Donyell Malen is ruled out with a muscle problem, Mahmoud Dahoud is out with a shoulder problem, and Mateu Morey has fitness issues. Meanwhile, Sebastien Haller is undergoing cancer treatment.
Hertha’s injury and absentee list is long. Filip Uremovic is suspended, while Derry Scherhant is a doubt to play due to an injury.
Linus Gechter has the flu and could miss the game. Omar Alderete, Dong-jun Lee, and Kelian Nsona are all ruled out of action.
Borussia Dortmund should have no issue with getting another win against Hertha Berlin. The Berliners are struggling and could concede a number of goals to Dortmund. This game should see over 2.5 goals with Dortmund winning.
