Tottenham have been disappointing of late, having started their campaign in good form. The side from north London have failed to win in their last five games in all competitions. However, four of those games have finished in draws with a low-scoring theme.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side host German side Bayer Leverkusen at White Hart Lane in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The home side have endured mixed fortunes in Europe’s elite competition, picking up four points from a possible nine.
The group is wide open, though, as group leaders Monaco only have five points, following one win and two draws. All four clubs in Group E have a chance of making the last-16, even Russian side CSKA Moscow who are currently bottom of the group.
Wednesday night’s game could be another tight one. Bayer Leverkusen have struggled for form of late. Roger Schmidt’s side ended a run of five games without a win against Wolfsburg at the weekend, though.
Bayer have drawn all three of their group games this season, which included a 0-0 draw against Spurs in the reverse fixture. In fact, stretching back to last season the German side have drawn their last five games in the Champions League.
It seems the most likely result of Wednesday’s game is a draw. However, if Bayer record a win they could jump to the top of the group, depending on the result in the other fixture in the group.
Tottenham has struggled for goals of late. The absence of the injured Harry Kane has hampered their chances of finding the net. Pochettino’s team have scored more than once in just one of their last seven games in all competitions.
A win in this game would give Spurs’ chances of making the knockout stages a boost in the arm. Unfortunately for the north London team, all the signs point to yet another draw on Wednesday night.
