Tight Coppa Italia final expected between Juventus and Inter

Rome’s Stadio Olimpico is the venue for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final between Juventus and Inter Milan. Who will claim the Derby d’Italia bragging rights in the capital?

The two rivals are separated by nine points in the Serie A table, with fourth-place Juventus trailing second-place Inter Milan.

Juventus have secured Champions League football for next season, while Inter are still fighting for the scudetto. But both sides will forget about their league commitments on Wednesday night.

Juventus kicked off their Coppa Italia campaign with an easy 4-1 victory over Sampdoria before beating Sassuolo 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, the Old Lady claimed as 3-0 aggregate win over Fiorentina – winning 1-0 in Florence before sealing the deal with a 2-0 victory on home soil.

Between January and March, Juventus enjoyed a 12-game unbeaten streak in all competitions – picking up eight wins and four draws along the way.

However, they have endured an inconsistent run of late. Following last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Genoa, Juve have suffered three defeats in their past nine outings.

On the flip side, Inter Milan claimed a 4-2 victory over Empoli last time out. Despite going 2-0 down inside 30 minutes, they battled back to claim all three points.

Funnily enough, Inter beat Empoli 3-2 after extra-time to book their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals back in January.

The Nerazzurri then beat Roma 2-0 in the last eight before claiming a 3-0 aggregate victory over arch-rivals AC Milan in the semi-finals.

Not only have Inter won seven of their last eight games in all competitions, but they have also lost just one of their previous 14.

It is also worth pointing out that Inter have scored over 1.5 goals in six of their past seven encounters across all competitions.

Head-to-head: Juventus have only managed to win one of their last five meetings with Inter Milan in all competitions.

The two sides last met just over a month ago, with Inter securing a 1-0 Serie A victory over Juventus in Turin.

Team news: Juventus have multiple injury absentees right now, including Federico Chiesa, Kaio Jorge, Weston McKennie and Manuel Locatelli.

As for Inter, they only have one injury concern at the moment, as Alessandro Bastoni continues to recover from a calf problem.

With so much at stake, the 2022 Coppa Italia is destined to be a close-fought battle between two top sides.

Forebet predicts that Juventus and Inter will play out a low-scoring draw in normal time, forcing the final into extra-time.
