Wolfsburg set to dent Hoffenheim’s European hopes

On Saturday afternoon Wolfsburg host Hoffenheim at the Volkswagen Arena, in a game that could affect both the fight for survival and the race for European spots in the Bundesliga.

Wolfsburg have endured a poor campaign in the Bundesliga. However, a two-game winning run including a 4-1 home win over Greuther Furth and a 2-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt last time out have moved Florian Kohfeldt’s team away from the relegation dogfight.

The Wolves are now five points clear of the relegation play-off spot and nine clear of the automatic relegation berth. Incredibly, they are now just seven points adrift of the Bundesliga’s European spots.

However, their recent form has not been great in the Bundesliga. In fact, a 2-0 home win over Arminia Bielefeld last time out ended a three-game losing streak for the side from Sinsheim.

The game also saw a defensive improvement, as Hoffenheim had also conceded at least two goals in the three straight league defeats.

The visitor’s recent away results have been poor too, as they have failed to win in three Bundesliga games on their travels, having suffered two straight away defeats in the German top-flight.
