Arminia Bielefeld play hosts to Borussia Monchengladbach at the Bielefelder Alm this Saturday afternoon as the two clubs battle it out down at the bottom and look to steer themselves further away from the relegation zone over the coming weeks.
In reality, it’s been a torrid season for Gladbach and unless things change very soon for them, it is set to be one of their worst seasons in Bundesliga history as they are just a desperately alarming three points away from being pulled into the relegation zone.
Last season, following the excellent campaign of Marco Rose at the helm before leaving for Borussia Dortmund, Gladbach finished eighth in what was a relatively decent campaign after achieving Champions League football the season prior.
However, Adi Hütter is now in charge and it has turned out to be one of the worst appointments in recent Bundesliga history with the side now fighting just above the bottom three with a serious chance of being pulled into it with a defeat here.
As of now, Hütter’s side have won only six games so far, drawn four, and lost a further 10. At the same time, 37 league goals have gone into their own goal, while the club have only scored 26 in the midst of this disastrous form.
To make matters worse, Gladbach are now winless in their past four games ever since their historic win over champions Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Embarrassingly too, Viktoria Koln from the third tier would even beat them in a club friendly, just as 2. Bundesliga side, Hannover 96, also beat them convincingly 3-0.
On top of this, Gladbach failed to get their league form back on track with defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin which has now put them within just a point of 14th-placed Bielefeld.
The home side here are in a bit better form having beaten Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 last time out, which extended their unbeaten streak to six, as the club also beat RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Given how they are right near each other in the table and how both sides are potentially just a few gameweeks away from dropping into the relegation zone, this is expected to be a close game and not much will separate them.
Forebet predicts another draw here for the two and a game that will see under 2.5 goals as just 46 goals has gone in from their combined 40 league games so far.
