The next round of the Copa del Rey features this week and includes the clash between La Liga 2 outfit, Leganes, and their more illustrious La Liga visitors, Real Sociedad, when the two teams meet at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
Leganes have produced some encouraging results recently as the hosts have suffered just the two defeats out of their last 11 matches in all competitions which came in the form of losses against Girona and Real Valladolid, both of which were in La Liga 2 and both away from home.
Results at home have been dominated by the draw in recent times with Leganes being involved in four draws in their last eight games overall, winning just two and losing twice as well, so they may find things tough going against their top flight visitors, Real Sociedad, on Wednesday night.
On the Copa del Rey front, Leganes have managed to win just one of their last five ties on home soil which was a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid but an earlier loss to Real Madrid and a loss to Sevilla back in January last year could see the hosts struggle.
Real Sociedad have been held back by an inconsistent streak in recent weeks as the visitors have picked up just three wins out of their last 10 matches in all competitions while also being handed five defeats within this period as well.
Three of these five defeats were dealt out to Real Sociedad on their travels with losses incurred at Monaco in the Europa League along with reverses at Espanyol and Real Betis but on the road, Sociedad have been quite consistent by comparison.
Real Sociedad have lost just three out of their last 14 away games in all competitions which includes wins in the earlier rounds of this season’s Copa del Rey with a resounding 4-0 victory at Panaderia Pulido and a 3-0 romp away at Zamora.
And it’s in the Copa del Rey where Real Sociedad have really shone, especially away from home, as the visitors have won eight of their last nine cup ties on their travels, scoring a total of 28 goals in the process and conceding just 6 in reply.
In addition, Real Sociedad have lost just one of the previous five meetings against Leganes.
