On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich host Mainz at the Allianz Arena, as the reigning champions look to maintain or even stretch their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich recorded a 3-0 midweek win over Barcelona in the Champions League to extend their winning run to four matches in all competitions. The win over the Catalan giants also saw the Bavarians score at least two goals for the third time in four outings in all competitions.
🗣️ @esmuellert_: "Against Barça, it just kind of clicks. We played well. Of course, not everything was perfect. When you play Barça, who always press high and try to put you under pressure, there's space for our wide players."#FCBFCB #MiaSanMia pic.twitter.com/LL5V0RZsOW— FC Bayern English (@FCBayernEN) December 9, 2021

When it comes to the Bundesliga, Julian Nagelsmann’s team recorded a potentially massive win last time out, as they beat closest rivals Dortmund 3-2 in controversial style. The victory moved the reigning champions four points clear of second-place BVB.
Bayern have a good recent home record in the German top-flight, having won nine of their last ten league matches at the Allianz Arena.
The German champions have also been prolific in the Bundesliga of late, scoring at least two goals in eight of their previous ten games on home soil.
Mainz are enjoying a promising campaign under talented head coach Bo Svensson. The 05ers are currently seventh place in the German top-flight table, just two points adrift of the European spots.
Despite their lofty position in the table, a 3-0 win over Wolfsburg last time out ended a three-game winless run in the top-flight for the visitors.
Mainz’s recent away record is a poor one, as Svensson’s team has suffered three defeats in their last four Bundesliga matches on their travels. However, they faced both Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund in that run of games, so maybe those losses are understandable.
Forebet predicts that Bayern Munich will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter for the champions to maintain a healthy lead at the top of the German top-flight table.
