This weekend sees the first Berlin derby of the Bundesliga season with the two separated by only four points in the table but also five places as Union Berlin sit in eighth with Hertha Berlin sat in 13th.

This weekend’s home side have had another excellent start to the season by their usual standards as they are once again competing for a place inside the top eight and the European spots, only four seasons after making it into the Bundesliga for the very first time.

As of now, Union Berlin have won four games, drawn five, and lost two, meaning they have tasted defeat fewer times than second-placed Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund, and fifth-placed RB Leipzig, both of whom are expected to challenge for the title alongside Bayern Munich.

Union have also seen 17 goals go in their own net thus far and pitch in with 17 goals at the other end themselves, meaning they have now scored and conceded the same amount to just about sum up their season so far, which although statistically topsy-turvy, has been very positive.

In fact, should the club win here, Urs Fischer’s men could end up jumping into fourth ahead of Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig as long as other results go their way as they are only two points off of fourth-placed Wolfsburg.

It would take a lot of luck for this to happen, but nevertheless, it just sums up how positive their early stages of this 2021/22 season have been and how they could end up competing for a Europa League spot once again. All in all, they have now become a legitimate Bundesliga side and look here to stay.

As for Hertha, they only echo further how the tide has swung in favour of Union in this battle of Berlin as the club are down in 13th and only four points off the relegation play-off spot and five points off the automatic places just below that.

Now, Hertha have still managed to win four games this campaign which is the same as their Berlin rivals, however, with six defeats compared to their two, the form is very different and alongside their 24 goals conceded, it is quite an alarming period for Pál Dárdai’s side.

Given that Hertha have conceded the second-most goals in the league so far, Forebet predicts a win here for the home side and a game that will see over 2.5 goals.
