Manchester United head into the match at Vicarage Road in sixth place and five points off of the top four. The Red Devils lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City on matchday 11 in a very poor showing.
Solskjaer’s team took just four points from the last 18 on offer in the Premier League. Manchester United scored just six goals over the course of their last six games while conceding 13 times.
Watford also took four points from the last 18 on offer in the Premier League. The Hornets scored six goals and conceded 11 over the course of those matches. Since defeating Everton 5-2 at Goodison Park, Watford have lost their last two matches.
Manchester United defeated Watford last season in the FA Cup thanks to a fifth-minute Scott McTominay goal. The last time these teams played at Vicarage Road; however, Watford claimed a 2-0 win.
In 2019-20, Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney scored as Watford won 2-0 versus Manchester United at home. At the time, it was another poor result from Solskjaer and Manchester United.
Solskjaer will be without centre-back Raphael Varane once again. He is still nursing a thigh injury. Midfielder Paul Pogba is also ruled out of the match due to injury. McTominay, Edinson Cavani, and Luke Shaw should all be passed fit to play following their own respective injury issues.
Claudio Ranieri has had a defensive crisis at Watford. He is set to be without Peter Etebo, Christian Kabasele, Ken Sema, and Kwadwo Bah due to injuries. Midfielder Juraj Kucka is suspended following a red card sending off against Arsenal on matchday 11.
Manchester United have been guilty of conceding goals this season with 17 in 11 matches. Watford have conceded 19 times.
Nine of the last 17 matches in all competitions between Watford and Manchester United finished with more than 2.5 goals scored. In addition, nine of those 17 matches finished with both teams scoring.
Saturday’s game should see those trends continue as Manchester United claim a win at Vicarage Road. The defences for both teams should concede as the Red Devils get a much-needed Premier League win.
