RB Leipzig will play hosts to Hertha Berlin this weekend as both clubs look to finally hit a bit of form in the early stages of this new season as the home side sit down in 12th, while the travelling side can boast just two more points.
In reality, it has been a torrid start to life back in Germany for Jesse Marsch following his arrival and the departure of Julian Nagelsmann.
The American was the assistant at Leipzig back in 2018 during a period where they finished second to Bayern Munich, however, he’s now won just two official games and is on the ropes.
Marsch’s first official win for his new side was a 4-0 thrashing of SV Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal and he has since struggled for any sort of form, with Mainz, Bayern, Manchester City, and Wolfsburg all beating them ever since.
Leipzig would finally get their first win of the Bundesliga season on the second fixture as they eased past Stuttgart 4-0 where Dominik Szoboszlai bagged twice, just as Emil Forsberg and Andre Silva managed to score.
However, form has once again decreased for the German giants and a 1-1 draw with Koln forced more questions towards Marsch’s who is most definitely facing serious concerns about the future of him at the club right now.
Regardless, Leipzig are still the favourites, which more or less comes from the state of play in Berlin, where both Hertha and Union Berlin are struggling to get out of a mid-table slump.
Hertha are currently ninth, and with just two wins all season, one defeat could throw them straight into the relegation zone, depending on other results.
The Berlin outfit have picked up three points just twice this season and these two victories have actually came in the past two games, so arguably, Hertha come into this clash with more form than Leipzig.
Nevertheless, a further three defeats and 12 goals conceded puts them, for the season, in a place with some worries.
Given the form of either side, it will be a closer game than previous seasons have witnessed, however, as they are at home and have managed to score four goals on two occasions already, Leipzig should get the job done.
