Manchester City’s season has unraveled over the past few months. The Citizens have dropped out of the race for the Premier League title and are now fighting just to maintain their Champions League spot for next season.
Their Champions League campaign so far has saved their season really, but they have been given a difficult task in the quarter-finals. Manuel Pellegrini’s men face big spending French giants PSG on Wednesday night in the first leg of their European tie.
Much like City, PSG have enjoyed heavy investment from Middle East owners who have ploughed a lot of money into the club to win the big trophies. Laurent Blanc’s side have dominated Ligue One since the investment arrived and they claimed this season’s title a few weeks back.
The Parisians can now focus all their attentions on attempting to win the Champions League. PSG dispatched Premier League Chelsea with relative ease in the round of 16 and will be hoping to do the same to Manchester City.
Manchester City have been wildly inconsistent this season. Pellegrini’s team just has not been able to put together a consistent run of form and that has cost them in the Premier League.
Their performances in Europe’s elite competition have been slightly better though and it is their saving grace at the moment. They will however have to raise their game against a PSG team that are considered dangerous outsiders to win this competition.
Pellegrini’s team will have to be at their best to beat the club from the French capital, or their season could take another turn for the worst.
