Mario Gotze could thrive with first team football

Mario Gotze could thrive with first team football

Germany international Mario Gotze has experienced a strange couple of years. The Bayern Munich attacking midfielder scored the winning goal for Die Mannschaft against Argentina in 2014 World Cup final, but his career has since been in decline.

He has struggled to nail down a place at Bayern and last season he started just 11 games for the Bavarian giants.

German publication Bild is linking the German star with a move to Premier League Tottenham. The 23-year-old struggled to make an impression at Euro 2016, as the world champions exited the competition with a 2-0 defeat against hosts France in the semi-finals.

Gotze has not turned into a bad player overnight. The relative youngster needs to be at a club where he can play every week and develop his game. Granted he peaked early with that World Cup winning goal, but there is still plenty more to come from a player with immense potential.

Former-club Dortmund and Liverpool are also believed to be interested in signing the attacking midfielder this summer. A return to his old club or the Premier League could definitely benefit Gotze’s career development.

The exit of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti may well mean a fresh start for Gotze in Bavaria. Maybe he will get the playing time in Munich that he needs to fulfil his potential.

If not then there seems to be a queue of clubs lining up to take the attacking midfielder off the hands of his current employers. It is unsure whether Mario Gotze will be plying his trade in Munich next season or not, but one thing is for sure he needs to be playing first team football to revive his flagging career.
