Capturing Unai Emery would be a coup for Everton

According to reports in the British tabloids, Everton are set to hold talks with Sevilla boss Unai Emery about their vacant managerial position. The Spaniard is highly-rated after guiding the Andalusian team to three consecutive Europa League triumphs.

Everton’s new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is expected to be highly-ambitious this summer as the Toffees look to return to former glories in the top-flight of English football.

An 11th place finish in the Premier League under Emery’s compatriot Roberto Martinez was highly disappointing for the side from Merseyside. The former-Wigan boss was shown the door prior to Everton’s last home game of the campaign against Norwich.

The side from Merseyside snapping up Emery would be a major coup. Emery is highly-regarded from his time at Valencia, where he helped Los Ches finish in the Champions League places.

The 44-year-old has continued to build up his reputation in his three years in Seville with those Europa League triumphs.

Emery is reported to have turned own moves to both West Ham and Napoli in the past, so the Toffees would have to make Emery an impressive offer, especially as Sevilla can offer Champions League football next season.

The Sevilla boss is considered as one of the best up-and-coming bosses in Europe and if he was appointed as Toffees boss no doubt eyebrows will be raised.

From Everton’s point of view they need to appoint somebody that will give everybody a lift after two poor campaigns under Martinez. Whether talks between the two parties will be successful remains to be seen, but if he is appointed as Everton boss then surely the majority of Toffees fan will be content with the choice.
