The October international break often gives us a chance to look back at what has gone on so far in the big European leagues.

One league that seems to be business as usual is the German Bundesliga, with perennial champions Bayern Munich sitting atop of the standings.

However, the Bavarians endured the unfamiliar experience of suffering a defeat before the international break. Eintracht Frankfurt came to the Allianz Arena and recorded a surprise 2-1 victory.

The win was the Eagles first win at Bayern in close to 20 years. Any defeat for reigning champions in the German top-flight is a surprise.

It was one of those games that happen once in a while with a big team, where the opposition goalkeeper has the game of his life, as German international Kevin Trapp produced a string of superb saves in the game.Nobody will panic be panicking in Munich, though.

Not much has changed under wunderkind head coach Julian Nagelsmann. The 34-year-old stated that he was happy with the squad he inherited from former coach Hansi Flick.

The only summer signings of note both followed Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig, as Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer joined the Bavarians.

Nagelsmann is regarded as a top tactician, but he has only tweaked small things in a team that has been picking up impressive results in the last few seasons anyway. Those tweaks could be important as the season progresses.

What do you get when you pair one of the brightest young head coaches in young football with a top team, you get trophies and it will just be a matter of how many and if the German champions can once again challenge for the Champions League this season.

The likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund may not be far behind Bayern currently, but if the Bavarians hit the sort of form they were in prior to the Frankfurt defeat, they could once again run away with the Bundesliga.
