Can Kane Beat Lewandowski’s Bundesliga Goal Scoring Record?

Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich in the summer with one thought on his mind, winning trophies.

The England international striker scored plenty of goals for Tottenham Hotspur and reached the Champions League final with the club.

However, the one thing Kane was missing in his career at Spurs was a trophy.

Kane decided to leave English football as he turned 30 years of age and for a player of such quality, his trophy cabinet does not have a single winners medal.

Along with his Champions League runner-up medal from 2018/19, Kane has a Football League Cup runner-up medal from 2014/15 and 2020/21 to show for his efforts with Spurs.

He had tried to move from Spurs previously to fulfil his desire of winning a trophy and this summer, Kane became the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history, costing Bayern Munich €100 million plus bonuses.

For a player who has just turned 30, €100 million is a lot of money but Bayern Munich know what an experienced striker can do in the Bundesliga.

In the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, Robert Lewandowski scored 41 league goals, breaking Gerd Muller's 49-year record of 40 league goals.

Lewandowski was 32 years old when he broke that record, so there is no reason why Kane should not offer Bayern Munich three good seasons of goal scoring in the Bundesliga.

Such has been the start Kane has made to his career with Bayern Munich, there are already talks of how the striker could beat Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in his first season.

Following the convincing 4-0 win at rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, Kane has 15 goals in the Bundesliga in just 10 matches.

His hattrick against Dortmund means Kane has already surpassed Bayern Munich’s top scorer from last season, Serge Gnabry, who finished with 14 goals.

Kane is the first player to score 15 goals in his first 10 Bundesliga games and is on course to net 50 times in the league this season if he can continue his current form.

If Kane scores in his next match for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, he will move level with last season's top scorers, after only 11 games.

Kane has not only been scoring goals for Bayern Munich but also creating chances for his teammates.

Kane has 5 assists to his name in the Bundesliga this season, meaning he has 20 goals involvements in total, the most he has ever had at this stage of the season in his career.

At the time of writing, Kane is averaging a goal every 58 minutes in the Bundesliga.

Kane could break several records in his first season in German football, meaning both individual and team honours could both be coming his way for the first time in his career.
