The 2006-07 season saw Stuttgart unexpectedly win the Bundesliga by three points over Schalke. The club reeled off eight consecutive wins to finish off the campaign to win the title. Since then, Stuttgart haven’t had much success in the Bundesliga.

The club’s best finish to a Bundesliga season following their title win was a third-place end to the 2008-09 season.

However, finishes in the lower half of the table were more the norm for the club.

Two relegations to the 2. Bundesliga and a few relegation playoff matches saw the club struggle on the pitch. In 2022-23, Stuttgart finished 16th for the second consecutive season, surviving the relegation playoff once more.

The 2023-24 campaign was supposed to be another slog for the Swabians. Just days before the start of the season, captain Wataru Endo was sold to Liverpool.

Despite the loss of their captain and two straight seasons narrow avoiding relegation to the 2. Bundesliga Stuttgart have started the campaign like a house on fire.

The club picked up 21 points from the opening 24 points on offer courtesy of seven wins and one defeat. Stuttgart will go into round No. 9 on the back of straight wins.

The only team to defeat Stuttgart this season was RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena. Although Stuttgart’s seven wins are impressive, they are yet to play the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, the three teams expected to battle for the Bundesli#mce_temp_url#ga title.

Stuttgart’s success has come from their attack. The team scored 25 goals in the opening eight games for an average of over 3.0 goals per match.Only Bayern Munich have scored more goals in the Bundesliga.

Leading the way for Stuttgart in the final third is Serhou Guirassy, with 14 goals. Guirassy not only leads the team in goals, but he leads the Bundesliga, with five more goals than Bayern’s Harry Kane.

Stuttgart will run into issues with their leading scorer on Saturday against Hoffenheim. Guirassy will miss the match through injury according to sources. The striker tallied 56% of the team’s goals in the opening eight fixtures.

If Stuttgart are to continue their form and remain in the top four, then more goalscorers will need to step up, especially in Guirassy’s absence. Stuttgart’s Chris Fuhrich leads the league in assists with five but will miss Guirassy putting away his passes.

Under coach Sebastian Hoeneß, Stuttgart are turning the Bundesliga on its head. The team is fourth in possession, with 55.1% per match and fourth in shots per game, with 14.8 per fixture.

Can Stuttgart keep the pressure on Bayer Leverkusen? Based on the scoring of Guirassy and his absence coming up for round No. 9, the Swabians’ strong star could be set to end.
