The second fixture to be played in the delayed 2020 European Championship is between Wales and Switzerland. The teams are competing in Group A of the competition and the match will be played at the Baki Olimpiya Stadionu.

Wales enjoyed a tremendous 2016 European Championship as they progress to the semi-final of the tournament but this group is arguably tougher than what they faced in that competition.

Wales come into the match having remained undefeated in 3 of their last 4 fixtures. The defeat came away from home in a friendly game against France but there was a crucial home victory over the Czech Republic in 2022 World Cup qualifying.

In the previous European Championship, Wales recorded some good victories over Russia and Belgium, the latter of which was in the quarter-final against a team fancied to go all the way.

Wales remained undefeated in their last 5 European Championship qualifying matches. There were victories over Azerbaijan (twice) and Hungary plus draws with Slovakia away and Croatia at home.

Wales have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 games and in each of their last 4 matches in European Championship qualification.

Switzerland have enjoyed plenty of success in their recent games and come into the 2020 European Championship on a 6 match winning streak.

There have been wins over Bulgaria and Lithuania in 2022 World Cup qualifying plus a victory over Ukraine in the Nations League.

The Swiss have played 3 friendly fixtures in the lead up to this tournament, winning all 3 of their games. Switzerland defeated Finland 3-2, United States 2-1, and Liechtenstein 7-0.

However, Switzerland struggled for much of their Nations League campaign and tasted defeat against Croatia and Belgium in friendly matches towards the end of last year.

Switzerland have failed to win any of their 3 most recent European Championship games. They were held to a draw by Romania and France in 2016 before being eliminated by Poland via a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

The Swiss have been involved in a lot of low scoring games at the European Championship in recent times.

They have seen under 2.5 goals in each of their last 5 European Championship fixtures and have managed to score no more than a single goal in each of the last 4 in the competition.

Team news and Wales can call upon the talents of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. Daniel James will provide plenty of pace down the wing while Joe Rodon will be in control at the back.

Switzerland can call upon the experience of Haris Seferović, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Admir Mehmedi in attack. Yann Sommer will play in goal and Granit Xhaka will captain the team from midfield.

Both teams know that with Italy in the group, a victory in this game will see them take a massive step towards the knockout stages of the competition.

However, we expect to see a closely fought game, with under 2.5 goals scored and the strong possibility of a draw.
