A recent 3-0 home win over relegated Dijon proved to the decisive win that Angers were looking for in their bid to escape relegation from the French top flight and this proved to be the case despite losing their subsequent match, 3-2 away from home at Marseille.
Nevertheless, a relieved Angers live to fight another season in Ligue 1 and they can now enjoy their final upcoming clash of the season against the current league leaders, Lille, with a four-point margin over third from bottom outfit, Nantes.

However, Angers aren’t expected to win this fixture as the hosts have managed to win just two of their last 15 matches overall which came in the shape of victories over Metz and Dijon while winning just the one of their previous seven games on home turf.
Goals could well feature though in this final match of the season as five of Angers’s last eight matches at home have resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored while four of the last six meetings against Lille have also produced three goals or more.
Lille are within a whisker of clinching their first Ligue 1 title in 10 years ahead of this final weekend’s action in the French top flight.
The visitors will be seeking to not only extend their unbeaten run to eight matches but finish their season in style by picking up all three points at the Stade Raymond-Kopa.
Lille still remain top of Ligue 1 but now only hold a slender one-point cushion over 2nd placed PSG following Lille’s disappointing 0-0 draw at home with Saint-Etienne last weekend, while PSG romped to a 4-0 victory at home against Reims.
The visitors have suffered just the one defeat out of their last 19 matches overall in Ligue 1 while losing just once away from home all season and Lille bring an impressive set of results on the road into this clash as well.
Lille have won 11 of their last 12 matches on the road but the Stade Raymond-Kopa hasn’t been the happiest of hunting grounds for the visitors as they’ve managed to beat Angers just once in their previous six visits, losing three and drawing twice.
Lille know that all three points in Sunday’s clash at Angers would land them the Ligue 1 title over PSG.
