Swans to keep fading hopes of promotion alive in Sheffield

The race for automatic promotion from the Championship now almost seems a foregone conclusion with Norwich close to sealing promotion, while second place Watford are also nine points clear of the chasing pack.

The Hornets would have to suffer a collapse in the remaining games of the season if the teams below them were to have any chance of securing promotion to the Premier League without needing the play-offs. One of the teams hoping that Xisco’s team slip up are fourth-place Swansea City.

The Welsh team are currently ten points behind Watford, with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening their game in hand. Until it is mathematically impossible, then the Swans are unlikely to give up on going up automatically.

A poor recent run of league form looks to have been the main factor in Swansea falling so far adrift of second-place Watford.

A 3-0 win at Millwall last time out ended a four-game losing streak in the Championship.

In fairness to boss Steve Cooper, he has done an excellent job just guiding the City to be contenders for the play-offs.

A lack of goals has been a problem for Swansea City of late, as they have failed to score in all four of those recent defeats. However, that is not surprising, as no team in the top eight of the Championship have scored fewer goals than the visitors this season.

The home side look destined for the third tier of English football, as the Owls are 23rd place in the table, seven points from safety.  Wednesday have won just two of their last 12 matches in the Championship, although those two wins have both come in their last four league outings.

Forebet predicts that Swansea will keep their slim hopes alive of automatic promotion for another gameweek with a victory, which would see Sheffield Wednesday fall even closer to life in League One next season.
