The final fixture to be played this week in the English Premier League will take place on Thursday the 4th of February and it is a huge game between Liverpool and Chelsea.

The match will be played at Anfield, with the hosts starting the week in 6th place on 43 points and the visitors in 5th place on 44 points.

Liverpool come into this game having picked up a much needed victory away from home against Sheffield United on the weekend.

With the score 0-0 at half-time, Liverpool made an early breakthrough in the second half and despite plenty of hard work from Sheffield United, they could not get back into the game and Liverpool secured the points with a second goal in the 65th minute.

It was an important win for Liverpool who had lost each of their previous 4 Premier League matches. Three of the 4 defeats came at home against Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester City, and Everton. There was also an away defeat at the hands of Leicester City and Liverpool have been in poor form in the league.

Home form has been extremely disappointing and the defending champions have failed to win any of their last 6 home Premier League matches, suffering defeat in each of the last 4 league games at Anfield.

Liverpool have failed to score a single goal in 4 of their last 5 home Premier League fixtures and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 4 on home soil.

Chelsea make the trip north having been held to a 0-0 draw at home by Manchester United on the weekend. The Blues can consider themselves somewhat fortunate not to have conceded a penalty in the first half for a handball offence inside the box and ultimately, a point was not a bad outcome.

That result means Chelsea are undefeated in their last 10 matches in all competitions, including their 7 most recent Premier League games.

Away form in the Premier League shows Chelsea are undefeated in their last 3 om the road, beating Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United plus picking up a point in a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Trends show Chelsea have scored at least one goal in 6 of their last 7 away Premier League games. However, they have conceded at least one goal against Liverpool in their last 9 away encounters in all competitions.

Team news and Liverpool may go with the same starting XI from the win against Sheffield United. Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Jordan Henderson are injured. Fabinho, Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Alisson are doubts.

Chelsea have doubts over the fitness of Thiago Silva and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Reece James could come into the team in place of Hudson-Odoi and Timu Werner and Christian Pulisic will be hoping to start having been left on the bench against Manchester United.

Liverpool will be buoyed by their win over Sheffield United but an in-form Chelsea will be a different proposition. Liverpool may find the back of the net but their defence will struggle to cope with Chelsea’s attacking threat and we could see an away victory with both teams scoring.
