Having lost five out of their previous six matches in Ligue 1, Wednesday night’s hosts, Bordeaux, face a tough evening at the office against high-flying PSG despite holding home advantage at their Stade Matmut-Atlantique as the home side seek a way out of their current rut.

Recent losses against Lyon, Lille, Brest, Nimes and Metz have prevented Bordeaux from lifting themselves up into the top half of Ligue 1 and the hosts still remain in 11th place but eight points adrift of 5th placed Metz prior to this upcoming clash against Paris St. Germain.

Eight points also separate Bordeaux from third from bottom outfit Nimes but although there’s little danger of slipping into the bottom three, Bordeaux will be eager to put an end to their recent poor run of results.

Following an encouraging start to the season at home which saw Bordeaux unbeaten in their opening five matches, the hosts have collected just a further three wins in their last nine matches.

Bordeaux are expected to be without midfield pair, Basic and Otavio while forward Bakwa has also been ruled out.

PSG are gathering ominous momentum at just about the right time as the visitors head into this midweek clash against Bordeaux just two points behind the Ligue 1 leaders, Lille,  having picked up seven wins out of their last nine matches.

The visitors look to be closing in on yet another domestic top flight title, this time, under the eye of former Southampton and Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino, who has observed recent back-to-back wins on the road away at Marseille 2-0 and a resounding 4-0 victory at Dijon.

PSG’s momentum is in spite of the absence of star strikers, Icardi and Neymar who are absent through illness and a groin injury respectively, while midfielders Di Maria and Verratti are also missing with injuries.

However, while Neymar is missing, the likes of Moise Kean (11 goals) and Mbappe (18 goals) have picked up the reigns and have helped fire the Parisians up into 2nd spot where they’ll be looking to heap further pressure not only upon their hosts, Bordeaux, but also the league leaders, Lille, who cannot afford to slip up now.

PSG also hold a good record against Bordeaux as the visitors are unbeaten in their last 12 meetings against their hosts and their dominance could well continue on Wednesday night too.
