Friday night’s hosts, Arminia Bielefeld, will be hoping they can avoid a third defeat in four matches as they prepare for this upcoming Bundesliga clash against high-flying visitors, Wolfsburg, but it may be easier said than done.
Recent heavy losses to Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 at home and a 3-1 loss on the road at Koln has contributed to Arminia Bielefeld’s current predicament which has resulted in the hosts occupying the relegation play-off place and things aren’t about to get any easier with the visit of 4th placed Wolfsburg.
Arminia Bielefeld had previously registered wins at home against Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart at their SchücoArena, but having amassed a total of just six wins to date in this season’s Bundesliga campaign overall, the odds appear to be stacked against the home side in this encounter.
The bigger picture shows that Bielefeld have won just four out of their last 18 matches overall in the German top flight while their head-to-head record in recent times against Wolfsburg has seen the visitors hold the upper hand with Wolfsburg winning the last five meetings on the trot.
Onto Wolfsburg, and as mentioned earlier, the visitors currently occupy 4th place in the Bundesliga following a solid seven-match unbeaten run which includes four wins and this momentum has helped lift them up into possible contention for a Champions League place next season.
With the likes of Bayer Leverkusen breathing down their necks, Wolfsburg certainly have incentive to add to their points tally here in order to consolidate their position in the top four and having recorded wins against Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg and Augsburg, they look set for further success this Friday night.
Form and results away from home have also been steady from Wolfsburg’s perspective as the visitors have lost just two of their 11 matches on the road so far this season which were at Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, both of whom sit in the top six of the domestic top flight.
Aside from those losses, Wolfsburg have produced some encouraging results on their travels, not least by winning their last three away matches on the trot with wins at Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen and Augsburg, all of which were to nil.

Wolfsburg therefore look the more likely for the points here.
