Last weekend Union Berlin made the trip to Augsburg where they suffered a second straight defeat, leaving the Berlin club 8th in the Bundesliga table. Gladbach fared much better in their game against Dortmund, running out 4-2 winners and moving into 5th spot in the process.
These two clubs have only met three times before and in each of the duo’s last two encounters have seen both teams score. Earlier this season when Gladbach played host to Union Berlin, the pair played out a 1-1 draw. Just 3pts separate the two sides in the Bundesliga table, so there is a good chance Saturday’s clash will also be close and competitive.
Three of Union Berlin’s last six outings have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals and none of those games have ended in victory.
Three of Gladbach’s last four matches have produced goals at both ends of the pitch and have featured over 3.5 goals. The visitors are also unbeaten in their last six fixtures, so Union berlin will be in for a very tough afternoon on Saturday.
The hosts will be without Trimmel and Hubner due to suspension this weekend, while Kruse and Ujah are set to miss out through injury. Joel Pohjanpalo has returned to training and could feature.
The visitors are unlikely to be able to call upon the services of Doucoure, Scally, Lazaro and Reitz for their trip to Berlin due to injury.
Union Berlin have only won two of their last six matches in all competitions and go up against a Gladbach side in excellent form.
Both teams have played to a very similar level so far this season and while Mönchengladbach have form in their favour, Union berlin have only lost once at home in the league so far this season.
With that in mind, a draw looks like the most likely end result on Saturday, but you should expect to see both teams score and over 2.5 goals.
