A 1-0 win away from home at Marseille handed Lens what seemed an unlikely win on the road for Franck Haise’s side and they now return to their Stade Bollaert-Delelis for this Saturday’s clash against Nice looking to make it back-to-back wins in Ligue 1.
Amongst the defeats so far this season, Lens have also managed to pick up important wins along the way too and this latest smash-and-grab at Marseille has helped lift the hosts up into 7th place in the French top flight and just five points adrift of 5th placed Rennes.

Lens had previously failed to win their preceding three matches which included defeats to Lyon and Strasbourg but they picked up a point in a 1-1 draw away at Nantes, while two of these last three matches were away from home.
After coming out of the blocks in quick fashion earlier in the season by recording three wins on the trot at home, Lens have since struggled for wins on home soil, winning just one out of their last six matches but they’ve held the upper hand at home in recent exchanges against Nice, winning the last three encounters on the trot.
Nice dropped down to 14th place on the Ligue 1 ladder following a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Bordeaux last weekend which also extended Nice’s run without a win in the French top flight to five matches overall.
Defeats against Lyon, Brest and Bordeaux have contributed to a sharp decline in form for the visitors who have now actually managed to pick up just the one win out of their last 10 matches overall.
That rare success came in the shape of a 2-0 win on the road at third from bottom outfit, Nimes, but six defeats out of these last 10 matches suggests the rot has set in amongst the Nice camp.
That said, overall results away from home haven’t been too bad considering the state of Nice’s current form as the visitors have suffered just two defeats out of their nine matches on their travels so far in this campaign, but recent history does appear to be against them when travelling to Lens as mentioned earlier.
Of their four away wins though this season, Nice have only recorded one victory at top half opposition (Angers) back in early November.
